How to Watch IPTV on Roku in Germany and Europe

Step-by-step setup

1. Check your Roku model and software

   On the Roku home screen open Settings, System, About. Note the model name and Roku OS version. Then open Settings, System, System update and choose Check now. Screen mirroring and AirPlay depend on a recent Roku OS, and some features are missing on the oldest Roku Express units.

2. Switch on screen mirroring

   Go to Settings, System, Screen mirroring, then Screen mirroring mode. Choose Prompt if you want to approve each device, or Always allow for fewer interruptions. On Roku 4K players and Roku TVs, also check Settings, Apple AirPlay and HomeKit, and make sure AirPlay is switched on if you plan to use an iPhone.

3. Install an IPTV player on the phone or laptop

   On an Android phone or tablet, install IPTV Smarters Pro or another player from Google Play. On a Windows laptop, install IPTV Smarters Pro for Windows or VLC. On an iPhone, use UHF or Smarters Player Lite from the App Store. The player runs on this device; the Roku only shows the picture.

4. Sign in with your TiviBridge details

   Open the player and choose the Xtream Codes login option. Enter the server address, username and password from your activation message and wait for the channel list to load. Test one channel on the phone or laptop screen before you connect to the Roku, so you know the login itself is working.

5. Connect the phone or laptop to the Roku

   On Android, pull down Quick Settings and tap Smart View, Screen Cast or Cast, depending on the brand, then select your Roku. On Windows 10 or 11, press the Windows key and K together and choose the Roku. On iPhone, open Control Centre, tap Screen Mirroring and pick the Roku. Accept the prompt on the TV.

6. Play the channel in full screen

   Start a channel, turn the phone to landscape and open full-screen playback. Keep the phone on charge, because mirroring uses a lot of battery. Turn on Do Not Disturb so notifications do not appear on the television in the middle of the Bundesliga or a Formula 1 race.

7. Improve picture quality where you can

   Mirroring compresses the picture a second time, so it rarely looks as sharp as a native app. Move the phone or laptop close to the router, use the 5 GHz band and close other apps. On Windows, set the display to duplicate at 1080p. Expect good HD but not true 4K.

8. Consider a permanent fix

   If you watch every day, plug a Fire TV Stick or Google TV Streamer into a spare HDMI port on the same TV. Both run full IPTV players with a proper remote and guide. Many Roku owners keep the Roku for Netflix and use the second device only for TiviBridge.

Is Roku sold in Austria, Poland, the Netherlands and Belgium?

Among TiviBridge's five home markets, Roku is only sold officially in Germany, where Roku players and Roku TV models reached shops in 2021. In Austria, Poland, the Netherlands and Belgium, Roku devices are rare and usually imported, and the Roku Channel Store may not offer local apps or full service. We do not recommend buying a Roku outside Germany for IPTV.

Why Roku has no real IPTV player

Roku controls which apps appear in its Channel Store and does not list full IPTV players with Xtream login. Roku OS also cannot install Android APK files, so TiViMate and IPTV Smarters Pro will not run on it. A developer mode exists for people building their own Roku apps, but it is not a practical or supported way to add an IPTV player.

Some casting apps on phones list Roku as a target and can send a single stream to it. Results vary a lot from app to app, and the guide, favourites and catch-up stay on the phone. That is why we treat Roku as a second-best screen rather than a main IPTV device.

Watching German football through a Roku

Mirroring works for a Bundesliga evening, but the delay and compression are most noticeable in fast sport. If football is the main reason you subscribe, put a stick on the TV. Common errors and fixes

The Roku does not appear in the cast list

Both devices must be on the same network, not a guest network or a different band that the router isolates. Restart the Roku from Settings, System, Power, System restart, and check that screen mirroring is not set to Never allow under the mirroring settings.

My Android phone has no screen mirroring option

Some phones, including recent Google Pixel models, have dropped Miracast mirroring, which Roku uses for Android. Samsung Smart View and many Xiaomi and Motorola phones still support it. Otherwise, mirror from a Windows laptop or use a different streaming device.

Picture and sound are out of sync

Mirroring adds a delay that some TVs handle badly. Pause for a few seconds and resume, or reconnect the mirror. Turning off any sound enhancement on the TV and using TV speakers instead of Bluetooth headphones usually reduces the gap.

The mirror drops during a match

The phone may have locked or switched networks. Keep the screen on, disable Wi-Fi assistant or adaptive connectivity features that jump to mobile data, and sit closer to the router. A laptop on mains power stays connected longer than a phone.

Only the sound comes through, the TV stays black

Some players protect their video window and send only audio when mirroring. Try full-screen mode inside the player, or switch to another player such as VLC on Windows or UHF on iPhone. Restarting both the Roku and the phone clears most one-off failures of this kind.
