How to Set Up IPTV on Android TV and Google TV

Step-by-step setup

1. Confirm your TV really runs Android TV

   Press the Settings button and look for Device Preferences, then About. Android TV and Google TV show an Android TV OS version there. Be careful with Hisense: most Hisense sets sold in Europe run VIDAA, and many Samsung, LG and Panasonic sets use their own systems. For those, follow the matching guide instead.

2. Update the system and Play Store

   Open Settings, then System or Device Preferences, then About, and choose System update. After it finishes, open the Play Store, go to your profile and choose Manage apps and games to update everything. Older firmware on Philips and TCL sets is a common reason why an IPTV player crashes on first launch.

3. Search for the player in Google Play

   On Google TV, open the Apps tab or use the Search tile and type TiViMate. On older Android TV home screens, open the Google Play Store from the Apps row. Choose TiViMate IPTV Player by AR Mobile Dev, or IPTV Smarters Pro if you prefer tiles for films and series, then select Install.

4. Sideload only if the app is missing

   If your regional store does not list the app, install Downloader from Play, then open Settings, Apps, Security and restrictions, Unknown sources and allow Downloader. On Google TV, first enable developer mode by clicking the Android TV OS build number seven times under Settings, System, About. Then fetch the player from its official link.

5. Add your TiviBridge playlist

   Open TiViMate and choose Add playlist, then Xtream Codes login. Enter the server address, username and password from your activation message and choose Next. In IPTV Smarters Pro the button is Login with Xtream Codes API. You can also paste the M3U link, but Xtream login loads the guide and films more reliably.

6. Wait for the channel list and guide

   The first load pulls 25,000+ channels plus the programme guide, which takes one to two minutes on an average box. Do not press Back during this time. TiViMate shows a progress bar at the top right. When it finishes, the guide opens on the first channel group in the list.

7. Hide the countries you do not watch

   In TiViMate open Settings, Playlists, choose your playlist, then Manage groups and untick the groups you do not need. A Polish family in Düsseldorf might keep Poland, Germany and Sport and hide the rest. Smaller lists scroll faster, use less memory and make the guide easier to read on the remote.

8. Set the frame rate and decoder

   In the player settings choose hardware decoding and, if offered, automatic frame rate matching. On Nvidia Shield and the Google TV Streamer, also open Settings, Display and Sound, Advanced display settings and allow match content frame rate. This removes judder from 50 Hz European broadcasts, especially on football and ski jumping.

Which Android TV device to choose in Europe

For most homes the Google TV Streamer or a television with Google TV built in is enough for TiviBridge in 4K. Keen football fans often prefer the Nvidia Shield TV Pro, which is older but still the fastest Android box for large channel lists. Cheap no-name boxes work, but pick one with Google certification and at least 2 GB of memory.

Best IPTV player for Android TV in 2026

TiViMate is the best player for live TV on Android TV, and IPTV Smarters Pro is the easier choice for films and series. TiViMate's grid guide looks like the one on a MagentaTV or Ziggo box, which helps older family members. Its free version plays live channels; the Premium licence adds catch-up, recording and several playlists.

Why your MagentaTV, Ziggo or Telenet box cannot run IPTV apps

Operator boxes such as the MagentaTV box, the Ziggo Mediabox Next, the Telenet TV-Box, the Proximus Pickx box and the Polsat Box cannot install third-party IPTV players. Some of them run a locked version of Android TV, but the operator controls the app store and only lists its own partners. There is no supported way to add TiViMate or Smarters to them.

The practical answer is a separate device on a free HDMI port. Many customers keep the operator box for a while and switch inputs, then cancel the operator TV package once they are happy. Watching German, Polish and Dutch channels on Android TV

TiviBridge groups channels by country, so Das Erste, ZDF, TVP1, Polsat, NPO 1 and VTM each sit in their own home-market group. On Android TV you can pin those groups to the top of the guide and hide the rest. The line-up per country is listed on our channel list page.

Set the audio language in the player if a channel carries several tracks, and set subtitles to off by default. If you mainly follow the Bundesliga or the Ekstraklasa, the sports channels overview shows which groups usually carry each competition. Always check the match you care about during the trial.

Common errors and fixes

The player is not listed in the Play Store

Play listings differ by country and device. Search for the full name with the developer, and check the phone Play Store on the web, where you can send the app to your TV. If it is still missing, use the Downloader method in step four with the official link.

The app crashes or closes during playback

Clear the app cache under Settings, Apps, then the player, Storage and Clear cache. Many budget boxes have 2 GB of memory or less, which struggles with 4K. Choose FHD versions of channels and close other apps with the recent apps button.

The TV guide is empty or one hour out

Give the guide a few minutes after the first sign-in, then choose Update EPG in the player settings. If times are shifted, set the EPG offset in the player or check that the box uses automatic time and the correct zone, such as Central European Time.

Channels stutter even on fast broadband

Switch from software to hardware decoding and back to test which is smoother on your model. Connect the box by Ethernet if you can. On Philips and Sony sets, turn off motion smoothing such as Perfect Natural Motion or Motionflow, which can make fast sport look uneven.
